Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a shooting incident that broke out late Saturday at Howe Park in Sacramento as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing an unlawful assembly of several hundred people.
How It Started
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park just after 6:30 PM after receiving reports of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. After that, a second call came in describing a possible physical fight breaking out at the location.
A law enforcement helicopter searched from above but reported no active disturbance. Even so, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.
When the Shots Rang Out
Law enforcement personnel set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling the crowd to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. The rapid succession of shots triggered a stampede. Deputies at once began identifying shooting victims.
The Shooting Victims
Altogether, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were taken to area medical facilities. Medical personnel indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.

The Investigation
The bulk of the shooting appears to have occurred on Cottage Way next to the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Law enforcement investigators located additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were noted in the iron fence near the nearby Home Depot. This ballistic evidence showed that a shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly for hours.
Suspects Detained
Information relayed over scanner radio traffic confirmed that a suspect Kia had been stopped in an area within Solano County. Four people were taken into custody. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to return them to Sacramento for formal questioning. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
